28 weeks and medication change

28 weeks and medication change

Friday was our latest scan, baby is measuring perfectly.
I’ve also spoken to my OB and she cleared the medication change. I will now take Allopurinol (100mg) and Azathioprine (25mg) daily in the hope that the Allopurinol works as a facilitator for Aza and gets things working. It would be great if that’s all I need to do.

Interestingly, there seems to be a huge gap between treating pregnant and breastfeeding women with Allopurinol in Germany compared to the UK. While Germany is cautious and would prefer to treat with steroids my doctors seem to perfectly at peace with Allopurinol.

Let’s see what it does. My main concern is how much of the medication goes into the baby when breastfeeding, as it’s almost a therapeutic dose for such a little being. I might decide to pump and throw away the first feed after taking the medication, just to be on the safe side. We’ll see.
